Research and Technology
TEXAS BACK INSTITUTE RESEARCH FOUNDATION
The physicians of the Texas Back Institute founded the Texas
Back Institute Research Foundation (TBIRF) in 1985. TBIRF
is dedicated to the advancement of science for the treatment
of spinal disorders by being leaders in spinal education and
technological advances. TBIRF is also committed to serving
both the medical community and the public.
Actively Involved in Spine Education and Research
In its field, TBIRF is actively involved in numerous spine meetings/conferences,
including presentations and chairing symposia. For example,
TBIRF co-chairs an annual international conference with the Swiss
Spine Institute, during which live surgeries are broadcast to
a conference facility in Plano, Texas and to a facility in Switzerland.
TBIRF played a key role in the formation of the North American
Spine Society and the Spine Arthroplasty Society. In addition,
our medical staff leads the majority of spine societies including
International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, Scoliosis
Research Society, Cervical Spine Research Society, American Spinal
Injury Association and International Association for the Study
of Pain.
Through its association with the family of organizations built
around the core competencies of the Texas Back Institute, TBIRF
evaluates, analyzes, publishes, and presents data gathered from
clinical research studies. This mission-critical information
is then disseminated to the medical community to further advance
the state of spine research.
The Foundation has been involved in the publication of spine-related
medical textbooks and monographs including Rehabilitation
of the Spine, The Spine in Sports, Lumbar Disc Disease, Cervical
Disc Disease and Spinal Arthroplasty: A New Era in SpineCare.
TBIRF has also published numerous articles in leading medical
journals including Spine, The Spine Journal, Journal of Bone
and Joint Surgery, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research,
Journal of Spinal Disorders and European Spine Journal.
